CAMPUS TO CORPORATE - Bridging the Employability Gap
The
accelerated economic growth has increased the demand for skilled manpower in
India in past few years. More than 50% of the total population in the age group
of 15–59 years are potential learners and require some type of skill training.
India is among the top countries in which employers are facing difficulty in
filling up the jobs, specifically at Entry Level. Key reasons for lack of
available applicants are shortage of hard skills, shortage of suitable employability
and soft skills. Recent FICCI survey also cautioned against lack of
Employability amongst Graduates and a need for employability based learning at
all level.
With a primary
focus on Skill Development and Employability, “Birla Foundation” along with
“Edify Group” has launched a One Year Post Graduate Diploma Program in Business
Development and Post Graduate Diploma Program in Banking & Financial
Services (PGDP) our very own city, Gwalior in partnership with a very
distinguished institute of Gwalior “The City College”. With a commitment to
train and guide aspiring potential students and make them employable in the
corporate, the course is launched and counseling sessions are in progress form
Monday, 2nd December 2013 at “The City College”. This program is backed and
supported by corporate partners, who enable them to provide promising career
opportunities for the participants. The program is designed and developed by
industry experts associated with Mumbai based Edify Group.
There are
numerous job opportunities available in India, yet there is a huge deficit of
employable talent in India, particularly in tier-2 cities. The need gap is the
dearth of Employability skills among students. We learn Math, Physics,
Accounts, etc. at college, which give you a good foundation to education. But
while hiring a potential candidate, employers also look for other essential
skills that they don't teach at college - Communication, Body Language, Self
Confidence, Analytical Ability, Personal Grooming etc.
The PGDP
courses are designed to train a candidate by industry experts & working
professionals in not only the industry specific skills but also the soft skills
and personality grooming. The structure of the course is such that the
candidates will undergo 6 months of Classroom training and following 6 months
will be On Job Training with various leading corporate house of the country.
There is a 100% Guarantee Placement Opportunity as the candidate will have best
of industry knowledge, striking personality and 6 months of working experience
with the industry at the end of 1 year. The candidate will be facing real life
case studies and corporate-like challenging scenario in simulation labs
designed to train the candidate for corporate challenges.
This PGDP
course offered by Birla and The City College has an upper hand over a normal
MBA course on account of many factors. Today very few colleges have corporate
interface in terms of training the candidate, whereas in this program,
faculties would be those who are working professional and are currently working
with a corporate house. Also, the concept of simulation lab will ensure that
candidates are industry-ready to take up challenging tasks which is absent in a
normal MBA course. The most important differentiator which makes this course
better than a regular MBA is of On-Job-Training. All the candidates are
guaranteed 6 months of On-Job-Training in a large corporate. This allows them
to understand various processes and working of a company and also acts as
potential employment opportunity for them. Today, no regular MBA course offers
employability skills as offered by this PGD program. The course will enable a
candidate to get a job in large corporate and a successful career in Business
Development.
Today, other
post graduate programs are not offering any placement potential as the design
and delivery of the course is not as per corporate requirement. In the time
when large corporate are looking at expanding their network in tier-2 and
tier-3 cities, requirement for skilled manpower is bound to escalate. In order
to bridge the skill gap, the initiative by Birla to target employability
amongst graduates appears to be an answer to many questions like soft skills,
Effective training, industry relevant module and course structure and
employment opportunity to a candidate.
