Image
When it comes   to matters of Hindustani Classical music, unanimity in opinion is almost never achieved. However, one opinion, which in the eyes of purists and aficionados is near unanimous, is that the Gwalior gharana is the oldest of all. The oldest, and most vital for the development of gharanas to follow. Situated in modern day Madhya Pradesh, the city of Gwalior has had a game-changing influence on Indian music. It was an important place for cultural activities in general, but no legacy of the city has produced and endured more than its music. The Gwalior gharana first rose to prominence during the reign of Jalal-ud-din Mohammad Akbar, a passionate patron of the arts who was much responsible for providing talent with opportunity in his time. Generally considered to be the founders of the gharana are Ustad Nathan Khan and Khadir Pir Baksh. Ustad Nathan Khan left for Gwalior from Lucknow with his grandsons, Hassu and Haddu Khan to practice and perform under the patronage of ...

सदा कलम ने ताकत दी है , बरछी तीर कटारों को | कलम झूका सकती चरणों पर , तूफानी तलवारों को | लेखक , कविगण और विचारक , सभी कलम के गुण गाते | करती जब विद्रोह कलम तो , शासन तंत्र उखड़ जाते | कलम उगलती अंगारे और , अमृत का रसपान कराती | शक्ति कलम की इस धरती पर , अपना अभिनव रूप दिखाती |   For many years, magazine has been an easy way to communicate your thoughts among the vernacular sects of the society, to provide an unmatched platform to the writers and to provide the readers with something magically different & trusted content. My Visit to Sarod Ghar - by Mahima Mishra

Image
It was a rainy day and I was in Gwalior to attend the Tansen Sangeet Samaroh where my husband was performing. The weather was gloomy and the clouds were not ready to relent. It was difficult to perform at the decided venue as it was an open area. The very holy premises of Mian Tansen’s tomb was awash with rain and thus the programme was shifted to another venue. The live telecast was also not possible as the programme could not start at the scheduled time. A recording was thus made to be telecast later. All in all, the entire mood of attending the function at the holy premises of Tansen’s tomb was spoilt. The rain gods had decided otherwise. The programme was good though, and people loved the vocal recital and the intelligent Tabla accompaniment by my talented husband. The next day, it was sunny and we had to leave by the afternoon. We decided to make hay while the sun was favouring us. The much renowned Sarod Ghar situated in Jiwaji ganj was calling us. We had heard so m...
